Aquilegia chrysantha A.Gray

Herb to 1 m tall, branched. Flowers erect, bright yellow, slightly hairy. Sepals spreading 2.5-4 cm long. Petals with spur 4-7 cm long, spreading. Stamens projecting from flower; late spring. Fruit follicles glandular hairy.

W North America

A parent of garden hybrids with many cultivars. A. flavescens S. Watson from W North America differs in having pendent cream to pale yellow flowers. A. canadensis L. from E North America is occasionally grown and has red and yellow flowers.
