Rhizome 1-3 mm wide, covered with red-brown hairs. Blade more or less elliptic to narrowly ovate in outline, divided 3 times, mostly less than 70 cm long, leathery and rough, hairs few if any. Stalks and main axis shiny red-brown. Sori protected by toothed flaps curled under margin.
Can grow in cool areas.
