Large, slow-growing almost tree-like ferns. Rhizome thick, erect, slender, trunk-like. Sterile and fertile fronds similar. Fronds divided twice, evergreen, thick. Sori in a line each side of the vein in ultimate segments. Indusium flap-like, joined on the outer side.
6 or 7 species endemic to Hawaii.
