Herb with oblong bulbs. Leaves 3-5, linear, stem-sheathing, flat. Inflorescence 15-35 cm, stem solid, 2 edged, spathe 1, 2 or 3 lobed. Flowers 5-8, erect , 10-15 mm long, bell-shaped; summer. Tepals purple. Stamens shorter than tepals. [A. grandiflorum Lam.]

Southern and western Alps in France and Italy and northern Portugal.
