Lycaste virginalis

Robust epiphyte. Pseudobulbs ovoid, to 10 cm long, compressed, tip without spines. Leaves 1-3, elliptic to lanceolate, to 75 cm long, to 15 cm wide. Flowers solitary, to 15 cm wide; autumn to spring. Sepals white to pink. Petals usually broader than sepals, reddish-violet. Labellum 3-lobed, midlobe ovate, white to pink with purplish markings. Syn. L. virginalis (Scheidw.) Lindl.

Mexico and C America.

L. macrophylla (Poepp. &Endl.) Lindl. from C and S America is a medium sized epiphyte with ovoid pseudobulbs and solitary greenish, white and pink nodding flowers to 9 cm wide.
