Usually perennial herb to 60 cm tall, more or less glabrous. Stems erect or ascending, simple or branched. Leaves and leaflets lanceolate or spathulate, to 10 cm long,margins entire or once or twice divided, petiolate. Capitula solitary, to 6 cm across, longstalked; spring to early summer. Ray florets yellow. Disk florets yellow. Achenes obovate, 2-3 mm long, with broad membranous wings. Pappus of 2 tiny teeth.
