Scrambling shrub. Leaves to about 8 cm long. Leaflets 5-9, variable, ovate-elliptic to almost round, to 4 cm long, 2 cm wide, tips pointed. Flower cluster compact. Flowers to about 6 cm long, curved, lobes about 1 cm long, orange to scarlet; spring to summer. Fruit capsule 6-7 cm long, linear-oblong; seeds about 1.5 cm long. [Tecoma capensis (Thunb.) Lindl.]
