Velvety Shield Fern

Rhizomes erect; scales pale to dark brown. Blade broadly ovate in outline, divided 3-4 times, to about 50 cm long, covered all over with soft brown velvety hairs; stalks and midribs densely covered with soft brown hairs. Ultimate segments oblong, blunt. Sori round, sometimes filling the width of narrow segments. Indusia roundish with dense covering of orange or yellow glands. Can grow in cool areas.

Recognition: Fronds broad, covered with soft, velvety brown hairs throughout; indusia with orange or yellow glands.
