Polystichum retrorsopaleaceum (Kodama) Tagawa

Fronds oblong to elliptic in outline, soft-textured. Segments with teeth bristle-tipped. Blade to about 1 m long; stalks covered with more or less ovate pale brown scales to 2 cm long. Indusia sunken. Can grow in cool areas.

Recognition: Large, arching, soft-textured fronds to 1 m or so long with more or less ovate rough-edged scales on the axis.
