Christmas Bells Family

Perennial fibrous-rooted rhizomatous herbs. Leaves simple, entire, linear, basal. Flowers radially symmetrical, bisexual, in terminal scapose racemes. Tepals 3+3, fused into a bellshaped tube; individual flower stalks not articulated. Stamens 6, free or attached to the tepals. Ovary superior, 3-chambered with numerous ovules. Fruit a many-seeded, dry dehiscent capsule. Seeds brown, papillate. Closely related families include the Asteliaceae and Hypoxidaceae.
