Cornus sericea subsp. sericea

Deciduous shrub to about 2 m tall. Branches maroon, hairless, except in cultivars. Leaves to 10 cm long, oblong to lanceolate, waxy-blue on both surfaces, tip pointed, vein pairs 4-7. Flowers white in flat-topped clusters 4-5 cm wide; summer. Fruits white, 6-9 mm wide. Syn. C. sericea L.

Coloured-stem cultivars are often grown next to water for their reflections.

E North America, Mexico.
