This name is based on a cross raised in the Segrez Arboretum, France, and described in 1880. A virtually identical specimen, known to horticulture as c. carrierei Vauv., was later placed in synonymy with this name. However, as there are minor differences, it was considered desirable to maintain 'Carrierei' for this particular clone, which is also assumed to be the one available in Australia. [c. _carrierei Vauv.]
