Hybrid Flame Tree

A hybrid between B. acerifolius and B. populneus. Erect tree to about 10 m tall with a broad crown. Leaves variable but mostly ovate, 12-15 cm long, 6-8 cm wide, dark and glossy above, pale below. Flowers in terminal or axillary panicles or clusters with individual flowers pink outside and crimson inside with yellow markings, Nov.-Feb. Fruit hairless outside, beaked, mostly 7-10 cm long, 2.5-3 cm wide. Dec.-Apr. Seeds about 8 mm long. [B. populneo-acerifolius F.Muell.; Brachychiton ×hybridus hort.]

A hybrid that is not known to occur naturally.

Trees referred to horticulturally as Brachychiton 'Hybrida' are possibly crosses between B. acerifolia and B. discolor.
