Clumping herb to 1 m tall. Leaves thick, lanceolate to 45 cm long, 12 cm wide, ovate-lanceolate, dark green with grey bands between the major veins on the upper surface, purple below, tip with a long, narrow point. Flower clusters in pairs, to about 7 cm long. Flowers white.
