Spiral Ginger

Stems to about 1 m tall. Leaves broadly elliptic, to about 30 cm long, 16 cm wide, with indistinct dark stripes and downy covering above. Flower spikes terminal, to 7 cm long the bracts rounded, not spined or callused at the tip; year-round. Flowers 1 per bract, yellow, the lip broadly ovate, lined with red, to about 5 cm wide.

Central America

Plants with strongly striped leaves are sometimes given the name 'Zebrinus'.
