Onion Weed

Rosette annual or short-lived perennial herb with thickened roots from short rhizomes. Inflorescence to 70 cm, branched. Leaves tapering to linear, hollow, sheathing. Flowers numerous, spreading, to 5 cm wide; spring to summer. Tepals white to pale pink with reddish-brown midvein.

A common weed in gardens, urban areas, roadsides and disturbed sites.

SW and Mediterranean Europe to SW Asia.
