Maxillaria picta Hook.

Accepted name: Brasiliorchis picta

Medium sized epiphyte. Pseudobulbs ovoid, to 6 cm long, compressed, clustered or well spaced. Leaves 1 or 2, strap-like, to 35 cm long, to 5 cm wide. Flowers several around each pseudobulb, to 6 cm wide, golden-yellow with reddish stripes; winter. Sepals similar, lanceolate, partly spreading, pointed at tip. Petals slightly smaller, forward pointing. Labellum 3-lobed, midlobe tongue-shaped, curved under at tip.

Brazil, Ecuador.

M. sanderiana Rchb. f. from Peru and Ecuador is a medium sized epiphyte or epilith with small 1-leaved pseudobulbs and large, solitary, mostly white and purplish flowers on long stalks.

M. striata Rolfe from Peru is a medium sized epiphyte with 1-leaved pseudobulbs and large, solitary, mostly greenish-yellow and purplish flowers on long stalks.
