Evergreen shrub 3-4 m tall. Leaves to about 6 cm long, more or less elliptic, narrowing to each end, wrinkled. Flowers in a cone-like spike, each to about 5 cm long, varying from yellow to scarlet with darker markings, the lower lip bent down and with a brown spot in the centre.
