Veronica spicata L.

Rhizomatous perennial herb to about 0.5 m tall with glandular hairs. Leaves opposite, to about 7 cm long, 3 cm wide, lanceolate to ovate, round-toothed to almost entire, hairy. Flower cluster terminal, dense. Corolla to about 8 mm wide, blue. Stamens purple.

Europe

 

V. incana L., Silver Speedwell, from E Europe and also flowering in summer, is very similar but is covered with a layer of grey-white hair. [V. spicata L. subsp. incana (L.) Walters]
