Densely branching shrub to over 1 m tall. Branches in rush-like whorls, sometimes drooping and with 4-12 ridges. Leaves 3-6 per whorl, ovate to elliptic, over 1 cm long, toothed, soon shed and reduced to scales on the main branches. Flowers 1-3 together, red. [R. juncea Zucc.]

Mexico

Naturalised in warm climates.

 

R. sarmentosa Jacq. is occasionally offered; it has sticky leaves to about 7 cm long and flowers in dense clusters.
