Perennial, aromatic, spreading to erect herb to 1m tall but mostly much smaller. Leaves variable, mostly broadly ovate and variously mottled in bright colours, margin roundtoothed, sometimes dissected. Flower cluster terminal and mostly simple. Flowers arranged in a paired branching system, the flowers about 1 cm long, bluish violet.
