Commemorating Dominique Villars (1745–1814), Professor at Grenoble, S France, and author of Histoire des Plantes du Dauphiné.

Tufted or stoloniferous perennial herbs. Leaves floating or raised above the water surface. Flower clusters held above the water surface. Flowers with sepals and petals united at the base, petals yellow with wavy margins. Fruit capsule splitting regularly, not submerged at maturity.

Grown for the attractive flowers and interesting foliage.

Leaves erect or emergent.

16 species from SE Australia, 1 from S Africa.
