Common Evening Primrose

Evening-flowering annual and biennial herb to 1 m tall. Basal leaves oblanceolate, 10-15 cm long. Stem leaves 6-10 cm long, narrowly elliptic-lanceolate and generally wavy-edged and toothed. Flowers in upper axils, buds upright, petals 1.5-2.5 cm long, yellow, fading to reddish orange, generally with a basal red spot; Aug-Jan. Fruit capsule 3-4 cm long, cylindrical or slightly wider at the tip. Syn. O. striata Ledeb.

Naturalised in all Australian states.
