Oenothera biennis L.

Common Evening Primrose

Evening-flowering biennial to 2 m tall. Leaves in a basal rosette and on stem, the latter oblanceolate to elliptic, to 20 cm long, more or less lobed towards the base, almost entire to toothed. Flowers in a dense spike. Petals 1-2.5 cm long, yellow, fading duller or orange. Fruit capsule 2-4 cm long, narrowly lanceolate in outline.

C and E North America (cosmopolitan weed).
