Butterfly Bush

A long-flowering perennial herb that sometimes grows over 1 m tall. Leaves with large saw teeth. Flowers on long, arching stems, white, becoming pinkish with age; late spring to autumn, the petals mostly more than 1 cm long. Fruit capsules 6-9 mm long, strongly 4-angled.

The petals with long style and stamens give the appearance of a butterfly.

This is a tough and attractive plant that has occasionally become naturalised as at Camden, NSW, and sometimes in disturbed sites in SA.The cultivar 'Champagne' has not been traced.

Gaura lindheimeri 'Siskiyou Pink'

PBR name (not granted in 1999) for a plant with purple-streaked new growth. Flowers dark pink on arching stems with contrasting white stamens; late spring to late autumn. First released by Plant Growers Australia in 1997-8. Originated in a garden in Oregon, usa, as a chance seedling. Also a 'Corrie's Gold' and a'Jo Adela', both PVJ 9(2)60.

A small version of the species. Originated in Europe.
