Fuchsia paniculata Lindl.

Tree Fuchsia

Erect shrubs to 5 m or more tall. Leaves opposite or in whorls of 3-4, surface ridged, margin minutely to distinctly toothed, mostly 5-15 cm long; stalks mostly 1-2 cm long. Flower clusters erect, more or less flat-topped and with numerous flowers. Flower tube not gradually widening towards the throat. Sepals and tube rose-purple, petals lavender. Fruit purple with a waxy bloom. Syn. F. arborescens Sims f. parva Munz.

This is often mistakenly listed under the name F. arborescens. As a result of recent realignments F. arborescens Sims is described as having entire (not minutely toothed) leaves and a floral tube that widens evenly towards the mouth of the flower.

Mexico to Panama.
