Pincushion Coneflower

Shrub to 1 m tall. Leaves 3-lobed or pinnate, about 3.5 cm long, stiff, tip sharply pointed. Flower clusters spherical, terminal, solitary, 4-5 cm wide. Flowers 2.5-3 cm long, pink to reddish pink, hairless except for at the tips of the segments; late winter to early spring. Fruiting cones to about 3 cm wide. Syn. I. roseus Lindl.
