Shrub or tree to 8 m or so tall with warty bark. Leaves alternate, oblong, mostly 10-25 cm long, 1-4 cm wide; margins toothed. Flower cone ovoid to cylindrical, 5-12 cm long, 7-8 cm wide. Perianth 3-4 cm long, pale to deep pink or red with silvery hair, occasionally creamy to rusty or brown; Feb-Aug. Style curved. Fruit 2.5-3.5 cm long.
