Southern Plains Banksia

Shrub or tree to 8 m or so tall with fissured bark. Leaves scattered, mostly 5-10 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, margins saw-toothed, slightly curled under. Flowers cones cylindrical, about 5-15 cm long, 7-8 cm wide. Perianth 3-4 cm long, yellow with a brown base; Mar-Aug. Style curved. Fruits numerous, 1.5-2.5 cm long.

B. praemorsa is similar but has blunt-toothed leaves and maroon-tinged flowers.
