Scrambling shrubs to 1 m or so. Leaves ovate, with pointed tips, to 10 cm long, 5 cm wide, silvery-haired below. Flowers 2-3 cm long, in clusters of 1-3 opposite pairs. Standard red with a yellow centre. Keel red. Fruit pod 1-1.5 cm long, silveryhaired. Syn. B. lanceolatum Meisn.
The most widely grown species in the genus and makes a good groundcover for massed planting.
