Purple Anise

Shrub to 3 m tall. Leaves lanceolate to obovate, 5-15 cm long, 2-6 cm wide, tapered at the base, more or less pointed at the tip. Flowers axillary, stalked; spring. Perianth segments 21-33, deep red to purple. Stamens 30 or more. Carpels 10-20.
