Small evergreen tree. Young shoots reddish, slightly hairy. Leaves to 12 cm long, oblanceolate, pointed, toothed, hairy, at least on the midrib be­low. Flowers with sepals oval, blunt; mostly spring to summer. Style bristly hairy below.
