Grown as a range of hybrids and cultivars divided into 7 interfertile groups: the major commercial ones are the Inodorus Group which has deeply lobed leaves, white rind and green and white flesh such as the Honeydew melons. The commercial Canteloupe or Rock Melon, which has a netted rind, orange flesh and a musky smell belongs in the Reticulatus Group, even though there is a group called the Cantaloupensis Group.
