Perennial with a woody rootstock. Leaves linear-lanceolate, mostly less than 5 cm long, stalkless. Flowers numerous, extremely small in clusters on fine-stemmed, delicate branches. Sepals and petals 1-2 mm long.

C & E Europe

Widely naturalised, but not in Australia.

A popular plant in perennial borders but more widely known as a florists' flower.
