A hairy, mat-forming, evergreen perennial herb of moist places. Stem rooting at the nodes. Leaves minute, alternate, circular, entire, 2-6 mm long with short stalks; stipules absent. Flowers unisexual, axillary, solitary and inconspicuous, mostly in summer. Male flowers with 4 perianth lobes and stamens. Female flowers tubular, with 4 perianth lobes enclosed in bracts.
