Persian Buttercup

Perennial with fibrous and tuberous roots. Basal leaves ovate to round in outline mostly with 3 finely toothed lobes. Stem leaves divided 2-3 times. Flowers mostly up to 6 cm wide (occasionally more in some cultivars); spring. Petals mostly white, yellow, red or purple. Fruits of ridged, hooked achenes.

E Mediterranean, SW Asia

Once popular as double, coloured garden cultivars and florists' flowers but now generally sold as seed mixes.

Tecolote Hybrids are a group of uncertain origin with exceptionally large flowers in various colours.
