Clematis vitalba L.

Deciduous woody climber. Leaves pinnate. Leaflets ovate to lanceolate, lobed, toothed or entire. Flowers in terminal and axillary clusters; summer. Perianth segments 4, spreading, downy, greenish white, to 2 cm long. Styles feathery. c. הjouiniana c.k. Schneid. is a possible hybrid between c. heracleifolia × c. vitalba: it has fragrant flowers that are tubular at first and pale blue but fading to white and is generally available as the cultivar 'Mrs Robert Brydon' which has small clusters of very pale blue flowers.
