Clematis texensis Buckley

Spreading subshrubs. Leaves pinnate, waxy blue. Leaflets with 4-8 ovate to roundish leaflets to 8 cm long, sometimes with a few lobes and with small spiny tips. Flowers urn-shaped, 2-3 cm long and narrowing at the mouth, scarlet or carmine; summer to autumn.

SW North America

A major parent of some large-flowering hybrids including C. 'Etoile Beauty' and C. 'Gravetye Beauty'.
