Clematis recta L.

Perennial to 1 m tall. Leaves pinnate with 5-7 entire leaflets. Flowers in branched clusters; summer. Perianth segments 4, each 1-2 cm long and with hairy edges, white. Styles feathery.

C. ternifolia DC. is a similar but larger growing plant with 3-5 leaflets that are sometimes lobed. Flowering is also more profuse. [C. maximowicziana Franch. & Sav., C. paniculata Thunb.]
