Evergreen climber. Leaflets entire, simple or variously lobed or divided into 3, shiny above. Flowers forming creamy bells in winter, rarely red-spotted; winter to spring.

S Europe, Mediterranean

var. balearica (Rich.) Willk. & Lange from the Balearic Islands (Mediterranean). An evergreen climber. Leaves ferny, deeply divided. Flowers almost bell-like, yellow-white with the inside mottled with maroon flecks; long flowering, often winter through spring to early summer. [C. balearica Rich., C. calycina Sol.]
