Hand Fern

Sterile and fertile fronds different. Blade thick, leathery, dark green; plantlets developing at the base of the frond.

Needs shelter and warmth.

Mexico.

New buds developing at the base of the frond; basal segments not extensively subdivided; venation netted.

 

Doryopteris concolor (Langsd. & Fisch.) Kuhn from the tropics and subtropics, including northern Australia, is occasionally cultivated; it has more finely dissected segments with veins mostly free.
