Anemia Sw.

Greek aneimon - naked; referring to the naked 'flowering' heads.

Discription: Rhizomes short-creeping, hairy. Sterile and fertile fronds different. Sterile fronds divided once. Fertile fronds similar to sterile ones but with clusters of sporangia on specialised spike-like, long-stalked bladeless branches developing from the two basal segments. Blades with veins free. Sporangia in single row on each side of fertile branch.

c. 90 species, tropical, mostly from the Americas with 70 species in Brazil and 20 in Mexico but also occurring in S India.
