Plant to 50 cm or more tall, rootstock fleshy, without tubers. Flowers in clusters of 3-15 and up to 20 cm long, the individual flowers 3-4 cm long, hanging, heart-shaped at the base, the outer petals pinkish-red, 2-3 cm long, with the tips bent back, inner petals white, protruding; spring.
